A life-size statue of Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing will be unveiled in Dhaka on February 16 by the state government, Arts and Culture minister Paul Lyngdoh informed today.
“The Meghalaya government has been talking to the high commission of Bangladesh and on February 16, we will be unveiling a life size statue of U Tirot Sing and also a bust of the renowned warrior of the state at Dhaka,” Lyngdoh informed reporters.
A delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar along with the Arts and Culture Minister will visit the Bangladesh capital to attend the function.
He also informed that the statue and the bust of U Tirot Sing have been designed by renowned artist of the state Raphael Warjri.
“After a couple of power point presentations including visuals this was approved by the department,” Lyngdoh informed.
It may be mentioned that the life-size statue of the Khasi freedom fighter will be erected at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in Dhaka.
This is in line with the celebration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav in Bangladesh, the Library of IGCC located at Dhanmondi would be a befitting location to install the life size sculpture/bust and portrait of U Tirot Sing.
