Meghalaya’s kickboxers won 12 medals – four gold, five silver and three bronze – at the 4th WAKO India Open International Kickboxing Tournament held in New Delhi from February 1-5.
The state’s gold medallists were Babit Kharsahnoh of Nongpyrdet in Ri-Bhoi, Evangel Pohplet of Riat Laban in Shillong, Lumjingsuk Iawphniaw of Mawten in South West Khasi Hills and Derrick Dashankur Nongrum of Laitryngew in East Khasi Hills.
The Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association (MSKA) congratulated all the medallists and kickboxing trainer Fourwell Khongmalai and other accredited coaches like Khraw Jutang Kharsyntiew of 14-8 MMA Dojo Mairang, international kickboxer Nathaniel P Kurkalang of St John Bosco MMA Training Centre Sohra and well known Babit Kharsahnoh of the Tribal Combat Academy Madanriting.
The contingent was led by Khongmalai, who is also the MSKA general secretary, and MSKA honorary working president and executive member of WAKO India Kickboxing Federation, Lorenzo Pearson Warjri.
Meghalaya medallists:
Gold – Babit Kharsahnoh (K1 Rules event below 51kg senior men), Evangel Pohplet (K1 Rules below 52kg senior women), Lumjingsuk Iawphniaw (Low Kick 51kg senior men), Derrick Dashankur Nongrum (K1 Rules below 54kg junior boys).
Silver – Samebaniar Lyngdoh Mawphlang (point fighting below 18kg children), Kerborlang Hing (K1 Rules below 51kg senior men), Dajied Kyrpang Synjri (Kick Light below 37kg cadet boys), Malvin Lyngdoh Marshillong (K1 Rules below 60kg senior men), Joviality Lyngdoh Kynshi (K1 Rules below 40kg junior girls).
Bronze – Sakibanshai Nongbri (K1 Rules below 54kg senior men), Apbantei Marbaniang (K1 Rules below 71kg senior men), Narimon Nongrum (Low Kick below 48kg senior women)
