Kickboxers from the State have won titles and brought home medals from the Kickboxing India League Pro Open Nationals held in Siliguri recently.
Daniella I Wanda Mylliemngapof Upper Lumparing Lumdorbar, Juh Pa U Juh Nongtdu of Nartiang and Federick Khongsit of Laikor Nongdaneng won the ‘Title Belt’ with a cash award of Rs 15,000 each.
Careen Judy Kharkamni of Laitkor Nongdaneng, a student of Women’s College Shillong and Ibankyntiew Iangrai of Mawdiangdiang and a Class X Student of Pine Mount Higher School Shillong were adjudged the runner up.
Shanlang Khongsit of Umpling Donglum Surok Shillong and Raymond Jyrwa of Nongrah Nonglum Shillong who is a student of Providence School Laitumkhrah secured bronze medals.
The fighters are from the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association and the contingent was led by the association’s general secretary Fourwell Khongmalai and Coach Bantiplang Khongwir.
Congratulating the winners, the association informed that since August 2017 kickboxers have so far brought 242 medals comprising of 90 Gold, 64 Silver and 88 Bronze medals for Meghalaya and India in National and International arena with International Standard Medals of 41 comprising of 23 Gold, eight Silver and 10 Bronze Medals.
Even at the All India University Games, kickboxers have created a record of bringing laurels and medals for NEHU Shillong since 2019 with nine medals.
