Shillong, Dec 2: The State BJP has criticised Congress President Vincent H Pala over his remarks that newly formed One North East (ONE) was a ploy of the saffron party to secure influence through backdoor in the region.
ONE is being spearheaded by the NPP, TIPRA Motha of Tripura, etc to, ostensibly, present a unified voice for the North East in the corridors of power so that the region is accorded more importance by the central government and other quarters.
“We are deeply disturbed that a senior politician such as Pala can make utterances without an iota of proof or any shred of evidence. Then however, to make unfounded, unsupported and unsubstantiated claims while screaming from the rooftops has become the hallmark of Congress nationally,” State BJP Chief Spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said.
He said the BJP rules three states in the North East and has representation in NDA that rules two other important states of the region.
“As a party we don’t need a ploy, we are voted to power over and over again due to our good governance and inclusive development model, we earn people’s support through transparent politics, things that are foreign to the Congress,” Kharkrang said.
He said the BJP runs the government in Arunachal Pradesh and has a sizable number of MLAs in Nagaland, two significant and predominantly tribal states.
“So to say that BJP is not liked by tribals of the North East is an absolute fallacy. The Congress and its members should get their facts in place before issuing such statements. Or is that too much to ask from Rahul Gandhi and his friends,” the BJP Chief Spokesperson said.
