Lawei Smit SC ended their run in the Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League 2023 on a winning note with a 2-0 result over Umpling SC in Group A at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Maw U-Tieng SC and Iasnohktilang Madanrting FC played out a 1-1 draw in their final group encounter.
After a goalless first half, in which Umpling goalkeeper Sildah Rynjah impressed by making several good saves, Irilang Khongsit made the breakthrough in the 52nd minute for Lawei with a terrific burst of speed that got her past the defensive line. She then fired the ball on the run to beat the oncoming Rynjah.
Five minutes later, Fedilia Lamare made it 2-0 by receiving a cross that she booted into the back of the net.
Lawei thus move to 7 points in the Group A standings, though they could lose third place after tomorrow’s match. Umpling end in fifth place with 3 points.
Earlier, Jerina Mawlong (36′) scored first for Iasnohktilang before Daphishisha Syngkli (42′) equalised for Maw U-Tieng a few minutes later, again with both goals coming in the second half of the 70-minute match.
Maw U-Tieng thus confirmed third position with 7 points, while Iasnohktilang are fourth with 4 but could drop to fifth by the end of tomorrow.
Tomorrow will see the final group fixtures. At 2:30pm, in Group A, Kick Start Football Coaching Centre will take on Mawkriah West SC, while Kharang SC will face Synroplang 77 in Group B at 4:15pm.
The semifinals will then follow on the weekend, with the SSA deciding to move the last-four matches to Saturday in the interest of the fans. Both semifinals – Laitkor SC versus Lumparing SC and Mawlai SC versus PFR Football Academy – will take place at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, with tickets available at the venue. The kick-off timings will be informed in due course.
