Intensifying their ongoing agitation, SSA teachers in the State under the banner of Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) yesterday and today resorted to mass casual leave as a mark of protest against failure by the State government to address their grievances.
The MSSASA said that the government paid no heed to their demand for creation of posts and shifting of the existing 12,541 SSA teachers from the State Implementation Society to the State Education Department on regular basis as per provisions of Right to Education Act and SSA norms.
It also said that the government failed to implement the pay structure and enhance the salary of the existing SSA teachers working under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Further, MSSASA said that salary for the SSA teachers was unpaid for the months of June, July, August and September.
“The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government keeps talking about quality education but it has failed to take care of the needs and requirements of teachers working under SSA. To survive four months without getting a single penny of salary and to perform our duties of imparting knowledge to our students is not a joke. SSA teachers also do have families like others,” MSSASA said.
Holding the State government responsible for the academic losses due to the ongoing agitation, MSSASA asked the government to fulfill all the demands at the earliest so that the welfare of the students will not be affected in future.
