The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has urged the state government to issue a correction over the rules regarding the appointment of primary school teachers.
In a letter to Education Department Secretary Ambrose Ch Marak, MSSASA said that the list of minimum requirements for primary teachers issued by the state government in 2015 differs from the National Council for Teacher Education guidelines from 2011.
Quoting prescribed minimum qualifications of the NCTE, the state government said that upper primary teachers should hold a BA/BSc degree and two-year diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), one year B.Ed or have passed the HSSLC exam with 50 percent marks, have a four-year BA.Ed, BSc.Ed, BA, BSc with 50 percent marks and one year B.Ed (Special Education).
However, the actual NCTE notification differs from this somewhat and MSSASA wants a clarification from the government on the actual minimum requirements.
