Four groups in South Garo Hills have complaint against illegal transportation of sugar to Bangladesh from Meghalaya and urged the district administration to act and prevent such practices.
The ACHIK, Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo Peple, Garoland State Movement Committee, Achik Youth Welfare Organisation and Achik Organisation for Social Welfare in Nongalbibra has written to Deputy Commissioner stating that they are aggrieved by such illegalities going on in the state.
The groups said sugar is being transported to Bangladesh without permission is in gross violation of orders framed by authorities.
Further the groups said that there is illegal import of arecanut from Bangladesh to Meghalaya through Baghmara and Rongara to Damra road. They said this causes immense loss to the government revenue as well as to local traders and also to arecanut plantation owners of the Garo Hills region.
