Established in 2020, at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic was greatly affecting the normal functioning of education in Meghalaya and worldwide, Smit College was finally able to celebrate its first College Week, which concluded today.
Located in the heart of Smit, the college, which has been growing steadily since its foundation, was established with the aim of providing quality education for students from the village and nearby areas and it is the first to be set up in the vicinity, which gives locals a chance to study close to home instead of having to undertake courses in the state capital.
The four-day College Week witnessed an array of beautiful and colourful displays of tradition and culture, with the students showcasing their unique talents in different fields.
On the final day, the Principal, Dr KD Ramsiej, gave a summary of the history of the college and its vision for the future. This was followed by a warm speech by the chief guest and local MLA, Lambor Malngiang, who spoke about the importance of education and the impact that having an educational institution on one’s own soil can make on the lives of the people of the area.
