The South West Garo Hills District Chess Association successfully concluded its two-day District Selection Chess Tournament on Saturday, marking a significant step in promoting intellectual sports in the region.
Held at Taktaki SSA Upper Primary School, Ampati, the tournament brought together around 60 enthusiastic players from across the district, competing for a chance to represent South West Garo Hills at the upcoming State-Level FIDE-rated tournament in Shillong.
The closing ceremony was attended by Betasing MDC Sanjay Koch, who praised the young participants and extended his gratitude to the organizers. “Seeing such passion for chess among the youth is truly inspiring. This tournament reflects a positive shift toward intellectual engagement in our district,” he said.
After a series of intense and skillful matches over the two days, six players were selected to represent the district in the upcoming State-level tournament.
