The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 681.63 crore as land compensation for the two-lane Shillong Western Bypass road from Umsaw in Ri-Bhoi district to Lad Mawreng in East Khasi Hills.
Informing this in the State Assembly today, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that land acquisition process for the road project is in the final stage and that the timeline for the completion of the 38.256 km road project is two years from the declaration of the commencement of the work.
“I am following up (the matter) very closely and I am so happy to inform you that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given sanction of Rs 681.63 crore as land compensation and we are waiting for the funds to be placed with the respective deputy commissioners. I am sure we will get this fund within this current financial year,” Tynsong said.
Leader of Opposition Ronnie V. Lyngdoh while raising the issue had requested the State government to speed up construction of the Shillong Western Bypass in order to ease the problem of traffic congestion in Shillong.
