Nongpoh, Sep 17: Shillong Airport today observed ‘Yatri Sewa Diwas’ with a series of cultural programmes, welfare initiatives, and the inauguration of new passenger-friendly facilities
Speaking on the occasion, Shillong Airport Director Rajeev Ranjan reaffirmed the airport’s commitment to providing a seamless and enriching travel experience.
“The celebrations reflect our commitment to placing passengers at the heart of our services. By combining cultural programmes, welfare initiatives, and new facilities, we aim to create a travel experience that is comfortable, engaging, and rooted in the local community.”
To mark the occasion, several new passenger-friendly facilities were inaugurated that included a kid’s zone, to provide a safe and engaging space for children, library for travellers to enjoy books and reading material while waiting for their flights, AVSAR a dedicated outlet giving local artisans and craftsmen the opportunity to showcase and sell their products inside the terminal and a workstation zone equipped for passengers who wish to continue their professional work while traveling.
In addition, the airport organised various interactive and welfare initiatives, including quiz and painting competitions for children, a free health check-up counter for travelers and taxi drivers, and a blood donation camp in collaboration with local health authorities.
With the objective to promote community involvement and highlight local culture, the airport terminal with the vibrant ‘Ka Shad Synrai’, a folk dance performed by a local troupe.
Passengers arriving at the airport were also warmly welcomed with flowers and traditional hospitality.
