Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang remains tight-lipped on the subject of whether he will stay with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) come election time next year or not.
Shangpliang, a first-time legislator, won on a Congress ticket in 2018 but ditched the party to follow Dr Mukul Sangma into the TMC.
However, those fireworks have not been followed up and the state unit of the TMC has been fighting to stay relevant of late and persistent rumours dog the party about its members’ loyalties.
“Speculation remains speculation but we always have to find options for a better future. Wherever the future is good, we look forward to that but I don’t say that the future of the TMC is not good,” Shangpliang told Highland Post.
He informed that there are Congress leaders who want him back in the party fold and there are also senior figures in the Bharatiya Janata Party who are eager for the MLA to join the saffron outfit.
He however said that these also remain as speculation but the call is on him whether he takes it or not.
