Mawsynram MLA, Himalaya M Shangpliang, has stressed the need to bring about change in lifestyle, eating habits, proper medication, etc to combat the increasing Maternal Mortality Rate- MMR and the Infant Mortality Rate- IMR.
Speaking at a function to observe ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ by the Mawsynram ICDS Project, Shangpliang said that the major cause of the MMR and IMR is lack of protection and immunization, access to nutrition, and micronutrients to the pregnant mothers.
He urged the ASHA and Aganwadi to religiously conduct the door-to-door visit to guide the pregnant mothers and not just to be content and wait at health centers.
