Shillong, Jun 29: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has alleged serious malpractices in the recruitment examinations conducted by the District Selection Committee of West Jaintia Hills for Grade 4 posts of 2021 and Lower Division-cum-Typist posts of 2025 and has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.
Today the party’s Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang and vice-president KH Chen submitted a letter to Chief Secretary Shakil P Ahammed to urge the state government to immediately suspend the recruitment process.
The letter stated that VPP has received credible documentary material relating to the evaluation of certain candidates declared qualified in the examinations and these raise grave doubts about the integrity and fairness of the evaluation process.
In particular, the records appear to indicate instances where candidates who attempted only a very limited number of questions were nevertheless declared qualified for the next stage of recruitment.
The Grade 4 exams were held on September 6, 2025 and that of the Lower Division-cum-Typists on September 27. Results of both were declared on March 24 this year.
Considering the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a fair, impartial and independent investigation, VPP requested that the matter be entrusted to the CBI.
The party asked the Chief Secretary to immediately suspend all further proceedings relating to the recruitment, including interviews, typing tests and appointments, pending investigation.
It also requested that all original recruitment records be preserved and sealed, including OMR answer sheets, attendance sheets, evaluation records, answer keys, tabulation sheets, marks statements, scanning records, digital data and all other related documents.
Speaking to reporters, Marbaniang said the party has documentary evidence to prove malpractices in the process.
“As per the evidence we got, they were not eligible,” he said, adding that if one examines their OMR sheets they were not entitled to be called for personal interview.
He alleged that this could be one of the biggest job recruitment scams in the DSC, with some candidates forcefully declared passed and their names pushed, affecting genuine aspirants who should have rightfully qualified.
