A two-day seminar for handicrafts artisans to popularise the Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana concluded at the Tikrikilla M.E. School in West Garo Hills today.
The programme was organised by the Handicrafts Service Center (HSC), Shillong, under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles.
The scheme was launched with a view to mobilize the artisans into Self Help Groups and training the groups on various aspects of forming and running the community business enterprises for self sustainability of artisans.
Tikrikilla MLA, Jimmy D Sangma who inaugurated the programme listed the attempts undertaken by the State government in facilitating the rural artisans about different government schemes to ensure their welfare. He threw light on the richness of the handloom and handicrafts sector in the Northeast and also spoke about the problems being faced by rural artisans.
