The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has banned burning of grasses, woods and other organic and inorganic matters in public and private property, forest grassland areas, park gardens, places of plantation and barren lands within the district.
The order under section 144 CrPC was passed on February 9 and shared with the media today.
The district magistrate said the order is necessary as there have been several fire incidents in the city and other parts of the district which pose a threat to the lives of people, properties and destruction of the environment.
