The East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has ordered closure of all schools and educational institutions in the district on Wednesday in view of the expected inclement weather.
The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi under the Disaster Management Act 2005.
The Indian Meteorological Department has today forecasted extremely heavy rains in East Jaintia Hills on June 18 and 19.
A public advisory has also been issued asking residents to protect from rainfall, thunder and lightning.
The public have been advised to stay inside a sturdy building or a hard-topped vehicle with the windows closed and to avoid small structures such as sheds, isolated trees, and tents, electric poles, hilltops, open fields and not to venture areas near water, to stay away from wired electronics and appliances, including telephones (unless cordless or mobile) and to unplug electronics.
