East Garo Hillls District Magistrate, Swapnil Tembe had issued an order under Section 144 of the CrPC directing schools, colleges, coaching institutions and other educational institutions in the district to remain closed from May 1 to May 10.
In view of the prevailing situation concerning Covid-19 in the state, the educational institutions will remain closed but on-going MBOSE examinations will continue.
All shops and commercial establishments will close everyday at 7 pm across the district, operation of weekly markets will be restricted to only agricultural items, vegetables and fruits and the places of religious worships will remain closed except for wedding ceremony with prior permission from the District Magistrate.
Political, public, social and religious gathering including conference, meetings and trainings, entry of tourists from outside the state also are not permitted, the order further said.
The order also said that the night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am will not be applicable to the movement of security forces, medical teams and other emergency services including goods transport and inter-state transport.
Wearing of face masks is mandatory and smoking and spitting in public places is strictly prohibited and the violators will be imposed with penalty by the designated officers, the order said.
