The managing committee of Soso Tham Memorial Secondary School laid the foundation stone for an extension of another floor of its school building.
The extension has been enabled through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of alcoholic drinks giant Diageo.
The school opened in December 2020 at Lawsohtun at the initiative of the Khasi Students Union’s Laban circle. It offered places in Classes 8-10 for dropouts from economically weak backgrounds.
The school is providing free education to 40 students at present.
The school managing committee and KSU wanted to extend the school so that it can cater to students in Classes 11 and 12 and Diageo has stepped in to make this a reality.
