Shillong, Sep 20: Former IPS officer and BJP Meghalaya chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said on Saturday that a fake Facebook account has been created in his name in order to solicit money from innocent members of the public.
In a press statement, Kharkrang said the fake account is being used to seek WhatsApp numbers, demand monetary favours and push unsolicited sales. This is the fourth time his name has been misused like this, he said.
Clarifying that he never asks for anyone’s WhatsApp number over Facebook and never seeks monetary help, he said he has no personal business establishment and has no requirement to use his personal Facebook account for business transactions.
He appealed to the public to report to the nearest police station any such request received from his account. Kharkrang said he has already lodged an FIR with the police and sought public alertness against the activity.
