The Departments of History and Political Science at Shillong’s Sankardev College organized a regional webinar on the theme “Political Developments since Independence in North East India (1947-1972)” today.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Head of the Department of Political Science, EM Tariang,.
An audio-visual presentation of the keynote concept was then shared. In her inaugural address, Principal Eureka FP Lyngdoh highlighted the importance of being aware of the political and historical developments of the North Eastern states and their significance to understand the contemporary political situation in the region.
Retired North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) professor RK Satapathy spoke on the topic “Constitutional Development in North East India”, Binayak Dutta, NEHU Assistant Professor, gave a historical overview on the “Integration of states into the Indian Union with reference to reference to the states of Manipur, Khasi states and Tripura”, Retired NEHU professor LS Gassah spoke on the topic, “The Sixth Schedule: History and Dynamics (since 1949)”.
Teachers and students from a variety of colleges in Meghalaya and the rest of the North East attended the online programme.
