Curfew imposed in the wake of post-vote count violence in Sahsniang village under Mowkaiaw constituency will be relaxed only during day time while it will remain in place at night.
West Jaiñtia Hills district magistrate in an order issued today said curfew has been relaxed in Sahsniang, but night curfew will remain imposed from 9 pm to 5 am until further orders.
According to reports, NPP supporters pelted stones at the houses of UDP supporters at Sahsniang village. The supporters were angry over the victory of sitting MLA Nujorki Sungoh of UDP.
Reports said that many UDP supporters from the village had to flee for their own safety.
In separate orders, the district magistrate said there is no restriction for movement of public vehicles in Nangbah village and prohibitory order in and around the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jowai has been lifted.
