The headman of Menadoba in North Garo Hills has alleged that a contractor working on a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project in the village has used old and rusty iron pipes instead of new ones.
Stephen Marak said that several verbal complaints have been submitted to the Public Health Engineering Junior Engineer responsible for the area but nothing has been done about it.
The iron pipes carry water from the check dam at Chiringspong stream to a water tank in the middle of the village.
These iron pipes are around 15 years old, Marak claimed, and will not last much longer.
A formal complaint has now been submitted to the Sub-Divisional Officer (PHE) Kharkutta Sub-Division. Marak also said that the villagers do not know who exactly has been awarded this project but they are demanding accountability.
