Police have arrested three suspected drug dealers and seized Rs 5 crore worth of heroin in a major bust in Ri-Bhoi.
The three individuals who were arrested were identified as Ronand Kyndiah, Daniel Syiem (both of Lower Mawprem, Shillong) and Thokchom Naba Singh (of Imphal).
Police received information yesterday that the trio were going to meet at a farmhouse in Lumkeni village, Umran, Ri-Bhoi, to make a trade.
On receiving this information, police set up a checkpoint at the Umsning Bypass junction on National Highway 6 and intercepted a black Alto (ML 05 K 0314), which contained Kyndiah and Syiem.
They were unwilling to reveal the location of the drugs, police said in a release today, but they were detained for further questioning and revealed during interrogation that Singh, who supplied the drugs, was heading towards Guwahati.
Another checkpoint was set up near Byrnihat outpost and Singh was detained there.
The suspects then confirmed the location of the drugs at the Lumkeni farmhouse and, today, a police dog squad uncovered the contraband hidden inside an iron box, which contained 70 soap boxes filled with heroin. The drugs are worth an estimated Rs 5 crore.
