North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prabha Shankar Shukla has stated that the appointed contractual technical officer/senior consultant cannot be sacked without valid reasons.
According to the VC, the appointment of Rohit Prasad was made after following procedures and with the approval of the Executive Council (EC).
Shukla is under fire from the Joint Action Committee of the university to sack Prasad, who it claims was appointed without following requisite norms.
Addressing a press conference today, the VC said that the appointment of Prasad was done as per the NEHU act.
He quoted from page 9 that reads, “The Vice Chancellor shall be the Principal Executive and Academic Officer of the University, and shall exercise general supervision and control over the affairs of the university and give effect to the decision of all the authorities of the university. The Vice Chancellor may if he is of opinion that immediate action is necessary on any matter, exercise any powers conferred on any authority of the university under this Act and shall rightfully appoint the person under all provisions.”
Shukla praised the consultant, who he said was the technical advisor to the Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, and that he is hundred per cent fit for the post in NEHU.
