The Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu (Clean Myntdu River) group has claimed that roadwork in Jowai coupled with heavy rainfall has led to pollution in the local river.
The group alleged in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia Hills on Tuesday that Dhar Construction, the company contracted to carry out road widening in the area, deliberately dumped mud into the Myntdu on Sunday and Tuesday.
The act destroyed paddy fields, polluted the river and dirtied the water of the drinking water reservoir.
With the monsoon set to begin in earnest shortly, the group wants a joint site inspection at the earliest.
