Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre celebrated the 120th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to the city of Shillong today.
The day is also observed as the Foundation Day of the institute that also runs a skill development centre for computer, art and language. Due to the upsurge of Covid-19 cases in the state, the celebration was conducted online with the live streaming of the speeches and cultural programmes.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Biswanath Somadder, was the chief guest and inaugurated the celebration as well as the third issue of ‘Ka Jingshai – The Light’, a trilingual magazine of the Ramakrishna Mission. Swami Achyuteshananda, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Narottamnagar, was the guest of honour.
“The e-zine is a fervent request to mankind to let us live in harmony and peace. Let us help each other and better ourselves by evolving towards better individuals,” Justice Somadder said.
Swami Hitakamananda, the Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong, remembered the presence of the mission in the North East for the past 97 years and its service to students and others.
At the function, Darifia Nora Lyngdoh was awarded with the Vivekananda Award of Excellence for her dedication and commitment to the mission’s service activities.
There were also performances by Ka Tbian Ki Sur Hara – Seng Khasi Kmie Music School, Sanskriti, and the troop of Pinky Ghosh, based on art forms of different North Eastern states.
Sumar Sing Sawian, Raphael Warjri, Moushumi Dey and Anita Panda were among the dignitaries felicitated during the event for their contribution to the magazine.
