A family in the Rilbong neighbourhood of Shillong has reportedly refused to undergo tests for Covid-19 despite having an immediate family member who is positive for the virus, which necessitated the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate to impose a containment order on the house today.
The house in question is that of Santosh Thapa located in Nepali Compound. The local Incident Commander and District Surveillance Officer had informed the District Magistrate and six high-risk primary contacts living in the house had refused outright to take Covid tests.
Because they are at risk that the virus could spread further if the family members are positive, the District Magistrate “deemed necessary that this house be declared as a containment area” until the Medical Officer in charge is confident that they no longer pose a risk to the public or until the family undergo testing.
