The foundation stone for a synthetic football turf at Nongsder in Ri-Bhoi was laid today.
The project involves the installation of a modern synthetic football turf, including the construction of a durable sub-base, aimed at significantly enhancing the quality of sporting facilities available in the region. With an estimated cost of over Rs 10 crore, the initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to upgrade sports infrastructure and promote youth engagement in athletics.
Present on the occasion were Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri, Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare, Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs DD Shira, local residents, students and sports enthusiasts.
Warjri maintained that the state government is committed to empowering youth through sports. He expressed optimism that the new facility will inspire and cultivate a new generation of footballers from the Ri-Bhoi region.
Lamare echoed these sentiments, noting the positive social and developmental impact the turf would bring to the community.
