St Vianney’s Higher Secondary School, in Umsohlait, Ri-Bhoi, began its year-long golden jubilee celebrations on Friday, with Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui present on the occasion.
The school began in 1972 with only 14 students but now has a thousand, from lower primary to the higher secondary level.
Rymbui praised the missionaries who founded the school with the aim of imparting education to rural children and also appreciated the staff for their dedication.
The programme also included musical and dance acts as well as the cutting of a cake to mark the start of the celebrations, which will culminate next year on the 50th anniversary of the school’s founding.
