Nongpoh, Jan 4: An awareness programme was organised by the Ri Bhoi police in collaboration with the Dorbar Shnong of Umrang Umjaren to educate community members about various legal provisions crucial for maintaining peace and harmony in their village.
The session held yesterday saw participation of youth, women, and elders, including Bonifast Ramde, Rangbah Shnong and Bistocan Timung, secretary of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Umrang Area.
Police officers, including Inspector of Police S. Lyngdoh, Second In-Charge of Umsning Police Station W. Khongsit, and Sub-Inspector A. Ramde delivered insights into key laws that underpin community safety. Important topics covered included the POCSO Act and the NDPS Act. The police emphasised the significance of understanding these laws, particularly how the POCSO Act aims to protect children from offences, and how the NDPS Act addresses illegal drug trafficking and abuse.
