The second phase of the special Covid-19 vaccination drive will begin in Ri-Bhoi next week, Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah said today.
The drive, meant to encourage the unvaccinated to get the jab, will be held in ‘election mode’, with polling stations offering the injection as well as other services.
Teams will be stationed in polling stations. For those in Umling block, this will be on January 17 and 18, while those under Umsning block will run on January 19 and 20.
January 27 and 28 are the dates for Bhoirymbong block, while those for Jirang block will run on February 1 and 2.
The DC called upon citizens of the district and school children between 15 and 17 years of age to take this opportunity to get themselves vaccinated for their safety. She also urged all others eligible to get the jab to come forward for vaccination in order to help curb the negative effects of the third wave.
Moreover, Kurbah has also informed that, in view of the concerning situation of the Omicron variant of the virus, there is an urgent need for people to not be complacent but to follow all necessary protocols and guidelines.
Public gatherings or activities have been restricted in tourist places/recreational/resorts in the district and all concerned personnel of tourist places/resorts are to ensure that mass social gatherings are restricted as per protocols.
“Entry of people into the state and especially tourists are restricted at Umling Covid-19 checkpoint and no one will be allowed to enter into the state without producing a valid negative RT-PCR test certificate,” said Kurbah, adding that this also applies for local people returning from another state.
