The Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi has clarified that no untoward incidents have taken place in the Patharkuchi area near Basistha as reported by one newspaper ‘The Assam Tribune’ in a news item published on the November 27 titled “Tension along inter-state boundary areas in Kamrup(M)”.
The Ri-Bhoi district administration informed that it has been keeping a close watch on the entire situation and an official enquiry was also constituted, based on which the claims were found to be baseless and misleading.
Such unverified claims made by respectable media houses are highly unfortunate and uncalled for in light of the possible ramification on the law and order in an already sensitive area, the DC said, and the district administration has urged all media outlets and members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unverified information leading to misunderstanding and unrest in the community.
