The Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner has invited applications for financial assistance schemes from the Central government for people with disabilities.
The Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, informed that the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has, under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, set up national schemes for the disabled and for organisations working for the benefit of the disabled.
The main aim of the scheme is to provide financial assistance for the empowerment of persons with disabilities which are not covered under the budgetary support programme of the government.
The activities for which schemes will be provided include for any government organisation or registered organisation under the Societies Act, Companies Act or Trust Act for a period of not less than three years, for organising exhibitions or workshops at the national, regional or state levels to showcase products, including paintings, handicrafts, etc, made by the disabled and also for financial assistance to support individual persons with benchmark disability who have won medals in sporting events or in fine arts, music or dance at the state level.
Furthermore, the scheme also aims to support certain exclusive needs of the disabled with high support needs, as recommended by the State Assessment Boards.
Those interested in applying may approach the Deputy Commissioner’s office for further details.
