Whether just a general advisory or one issued because of apprehensions of trouble to come, the District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi has directed all government officials in the district to be vigilant and take precautions to protect Meghalaya government property.
The order is meant to ensure that government property be secured against theft or damage.
Fire extinguishers, water, sand buckets must be placed in all government offices, government vehicles should be parked in safe places and should not be placed in public or private places except in safe spaces, the DM said. Any incidents should be informed immediately by contacting the Superintendent of Police of Ri-Bhoi, the police control room or 112 helpline.
Officials who fail to comply with this order could face disciplinary or legal action.
Although thefts can occur any time of the year, government property can be the target of concerted efforts to cause damage during agitations, protests, riots, etc.
