The District Magistrate of North Garo Hills has restricted the use of loudspeakers and public address systems in the district under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000.
Loudspeakers and PA systems cannot be used unless written permission is obtained from the concerned authority. They also cannot be used between 10pm to 6am except in closed premises for communication within, such as in an auditorium, conference room, community hall, banquet hall, or during a public emergency.
The noise level at the boundary of the public place where loudspeakers or PA systems or any other noise source are being used shall not exceed 10 decibels above the ambient noise standards for the area or 75db, whichever is lower.
The peripheral noise level of a privately owned sound system or a sound producing instrument shall not, at the boundary of the private place, exceed by more than 5db the ambient noise standards specified for the area in which it is used.
