The East Jaintia Hills district administration has agreed to the suggestion proposed by the Jaintia National Council (JNC) to impose restrictions on movement of heavy vehicles inside Khliehriat.
The no-entry restriction would be in place from Friday from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and from 2 pm to 3 pm.
The JNC, Khliehriat circle who met Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi today highlighted the significant risk to school-going children when heavy vehicles are allowed to ply during school hours.
The organisation said that parents face problems during drop-off and pick-up times of their wards, primarily due to the unregulated movement of large vehicles that cause not only traffic congestion but risk to students, especially with the ongoing road construction.
