Shillong, May 9: Households in Byrnihat are facing serious difficulties as cooking gas cylinders remain unavailable for months, forcing residents and the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) to stage a protest outside Wankhar Gas Agency.
Local women, who joined the protest, expressed their frustrations over the irregular supply of LPG. Despite having completed all necessary bookings and requirements, families are still unable to obtain cooking gas, they said.
Some residents alleged that cylinders are being diverted to other markets, where they are sold at inflated prices, exacerbating the ongoing crisis.
RBYF Byrnihat Circle President Ricky Lapang said that the organisation felt compelled to intervene after receiving numerous complaints concerning mismanagement and rude customer service from the agency.
If the situation does not improve, Lapang warned that the organisation might escalate their actions, including demanding the cancellation of the agency’s license and suggesting the appointment of an alternative distributor who can effectively meet the community’s needs.
