The Meghalaya High Court today said it was satisfied with the ongoing repair of the national highway (NH-6) between Jowai and Ratacherra.
A division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh of the Meghalaya High Court had perused the report submitted by amicus curiae Suraj Panthi, who was directed to inspect the entire highway.
“We have every reason to believe that the work of repair is progressing satisfactorily,” the court said. However, it said there are “some subsisting problems” and asked the NHAI to resolve them soon.
The court said as per the report submitted by Panthi there are large potholes and exposed rods from small bridges. “But these issues are not very major and we direct the respondent-NHAI to resolve them as soon as possible,” it added.
After hearing S Sengupta, the lawyer appearing for NHAI, the court said it is expected that the 102.225 km highway would become safely pliable, without any obstruction within a reasonable time.
The court also asked the state government and the NHAI to file a status report before April 16, 2025, which is the next date of hearing, and to indicate completion of the project.
