The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has sought for the regularisation of their services before being assigned duties for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), which are slated for April 9.
In a memo sent to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the teachers stated that being given electoral duties would hamper their job of ensuring regular and complete education, a role they are duty bound to as teachers.
“Teachers engaged in election duties are distracted from performing their own duties and as a result the given annual curriculum cannot be completed. Further, the SSA teachers are either contractual or non-regularized. As such we should not be deputed for election duty as salaries are irregular in meeting our domestic needs,” said the teachers through the memo.
AGHSSASTA further felt that if they were to be deputed for elections, their jobs need to be regularised.
