In a bid to preserve the aquatic species that survive in the Umïam River in the Bhoirymbong area, the members of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Bhoilasa unit, in collaboration with the office of the district Superintendent of Fisheries set an example by releasing more than 25,000 fish fingerlings at Pynthor and Mynsain villages.
The speakers during the day mourned over the reckless behaviour of the people in killing aquatic life by fishing with nets, dynamite and by using poison, which has sharply reduced numbers of species in the state’s rivers.
They also stressed to the local people on the important role of conservation and preservation of other animals and insect species living in forests.
