As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, Saindur Enviro, Shillong, in collaboration with several organisations, held an Environmental Rally in the city today under the theme “Our Country, Our Environment, Our Responsibility.”
The rally aims to raise awareness about critical environmental challenges such as plastic pollution, river contamination, and the importance of proper waste disposal.
The rally drew over 150 participants, with enthusiastic involvement from NCC cadets from 61 Megh Girls BN, 2 Megh BN, and 42 Megh BN, along with students from Sankardev College and Shillong College, as well as representatives from various environmental organisations.
Marching through the streets with placards and banners, participants chanted impactful slogans like “Refuse Single-Use Plastics, Save the Earth!”, “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat,” and “Clean Rivers, Green Future!” to inspire citizens to take responsibility for protecting the environment.
In his address, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, RS Gill congratulated the organisers for the successful rally, stating, “The enthusiastic participation of the NCC cadets and young volunteers gives us hope for the future. It is heartening to see the youth leading the charge in protecting our environment. Their actions today set an example for all of us.”
He urged everyone to become frontline advocates of sustainability in their daily lives, reminding the audience that only through consistent effort can we achieve a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.
R.Nainamalai, Chairman of Meghalaya Pollution Control Board, emphasised that “While this rally is a significant step forward, our journey does not end here. We must continue spreading the message of cleanliness and environmental protection far and wide. I encourage everyone to make small yet impactful changes—such as reducing plastic use, conserving water, and ensuring proper waste disposal. Together, we can create lasting change.”
Col. V. Pant from NCC highlighted the need for sustained efforts, stating, “Our mission does not stop until every citizen realizes and performs their duty towards the environment. We must continue our efforts until environmental responsibility becomes a part of everyone’s daily routine.”
Through this rally, Saindur Enviro aims to reach people from all walks of life, emphasising that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is a shared responsibility.
“Our goal is to make every citizen realize that protecting the environment is not just the government’s job but everyone’s responsibility,” Vivek Kumar, Director of Saindur Enviro said.
