Shillong, Mar 9: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has strongly condemned the alleged racial assault on two individuals from the Northeast in New Delhi, describing the incident as “sickening”.
The attack reportedly took place near the Saket District Court complex in the Malviya Nagar area on Sunday evening.
Sangma urged authorities to take stringent action against those responsible, saying “Racial bullying should not be accepted as the new normal and we must act against it.”
Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also condemned the incident, expressing concern over the alleged racial harassment and assault.
The Delhi Police has registered a criminal case and deployed teams to identify and apprehend those involved. One juvenile has been apprehended, and raids are being carried out to nab the remaining accused. The police assured strict legal action against those responsible.
The incident has sparked concerns over the safety of people from the Northeast living in the national capital, highlighting recurring allegations of racial discrimination faced by individuals from the region in metropolitan cities.
