Due to the inclement weather, the likelihood of landslides on the Rngain stretch of National Highway 40, connecting Shillong to Dawki, is high, the public have been told.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Pynursla today advised the general public to exercise caution while travelling on the stretch of road, especially during heavy rain and at night. Citizens were also advised to avoid unnecessary travel along the route. The SDO added that the situation is being assessed and monitored closely for the safety of the public.
Meghalaya, and the Pynursla area in particular, has been experiencing very heavy rain going back to the end of May. In April last year, two people lost their lives in a landslide along the route.
