Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal has stated that frequent power cuts and shut down has to be resorted to, in order to restore damaged power lines caused by Cyclone Remal.
Mondal agreed that in some areas there are faulty connections and that the MeECL is forced to resort to shutdown. But the minister allayed fears of load-shedding.
He said that the Power Department is currently working on erection of electric poles, repair of transmission lines and strengthening of sub stations.
The MeECL suffered huge damage in the recent cyclone and assessment of the damages is being done, he added.
Meanwhile, the minister also claimed that Meghalaya is in a comfortable position as far as availability of power is concerned.
“This indicates that we have improved to some extent but it is too early to say whether MeECL is reviving or nor or whether It will revive or not,” he said.
On the strengthening work of the Umiam bridge, he reiterated that work will be completed by the end of July or the first week of August.
