The office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Meghalaya today revived postal ballots for senior citizens above the age of 80 and people with disabilities by distributing Form 12 D to these individuals by visiting their houses.
The Election Commission of India has allowed senior citizens above the age of 80; differently-abled persons, COVID-19 patients, and the COVID-19 suspects in isolation to cast postal ballots.
Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor informed that Form 12 D postal ballots was revived as a measure to facilitate exercising of franchise by these sections of the voters without going to polling stations in the presence of polling officials in various parts of the by-poll bound Assembly constituencies of Mawphlang, Mawryngkneng and Rajabala.
He informed that about 300 senior citizens have opted for voting through 12 D postal ballots.
