The Dorbar Shnong and the Khasi Students Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills district unit have come together to aid a poor family in Pahamsyiem by constructing a house for them to cherish their dream of a safe home.
While land was donated by the dorbar, all the construction expenses were borne by the district unit of the union to celebrate its Silver Jubilee.
The house to the family of Silima Lymphuid, a widow with four children was handed over today in the presence of KSU president Lambokstar Marngar, unit president Ferdinald Kharkamni, vice president Lambok Rymbai, assistant rangbah shnong of Pahamsyiem Wanphrang Sumer, members of the Seng Longkmie and others.
Marngar lauded the initiative taken by the unit and exhorted his members to have a sense of responsibility in caring and protecting the community. He asked them to shelve selfishness to protect the identity of the indigenous people of the State.
He also said the KSU does not have enough money to sponsor construction of houses for the poor but generous contributions from members.
