The State under the NPP-led MDA government does not only run on nepotism and favouritism, notification perks and facilities but misuse of the Police Department, former chief minister Dr. Mukul Sangma said.
Reacting to the appointment of former Tura MP Agatha K Sangma as the Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), he stated that various other privileges and facilities from various line departments are being used and one such is from the police department.
According to Dr Sangma, many political appointees are provided with security cover and questioned the severity level of threats that they deserve a cover.
“Tell me which of these political appointees have taken insurgency, militancy head on and their lives are so threatened?” he said.
He said that if someone has been given police protection unnecessarily for “show off” and creating “public nuisance” the opposition will demand a refund of every spending done from the officer who has provided security.
“The officer concerned will have to refund the money. We will see to that,” the Leader of Opposition assured the people of the state.
He said he would be demanding for a meeting of the State Security Commission, to take cognizance of unnecessary wastage of money from the public exchequer by misusing the police.
