Following the massive damage caused to public and private properties by heavy rains and flood in Shella area, the Hynnniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today wrote to the Sub-Divisional Officer, Sohra Civil Sub-Division urging him to conduct assessment of the damage.
HYC Shella area unit general secretary Seiborlang Diengdoh in the letter to the Sub-Divisional Officer, Sohra Civil Sub-Division informed that roads, bridges and walls built by various government departments in Shella have been destroyed by the flood caused by swelling of Shella River.
“The major damage was caused to Kher Pyrkan, one of the localities in Shella, where the flood has washed away the embankment and a road constructed through funding by Special Purpose Vehicle. Shella River may enter people’s houses and lead to loss of life if no immediate steps are taken,” Diengdoh said.
He also said that many other localities in Shella have also suffered damage to infrastructure due to floods and heavy rains.
“To get a clear picture on the matter, a proper and detailed assessment is required so that a report could be prepared and sent to the higher authorities so that restoration works could be initiated to property the lives and properties of the people living close to the Shella River and also in the entire Shella area,” the HYC leader said.
